Erik

I am a DPhil candidate in Mathematics at the University of Oxford, and I have tutored both for the department and privately. I started tutoring in my final years of high school, and the enjoyment I found in witnessing the progress of my students made me never want to stop. To date, I have more than 7 years of experience in tutoring for both secondary school and university students. I specialize in mathematics, physics, and related scientific subjects, as well as Italian for speakers of other languages.

How I tutor

I normally like to proceed from the student feedback and use this information to tailor a program that is targeted to the specific needs of the mentee, but wide enough to contextualize the topic in the context in bigger picture of the subject. From there, the strengthening of theoretical foundations and the development of practical abilities is always a delicate balance, achievable through direct interaction and targeted exercises. In doing so, I craft the learning journey with particular focus on stimulating the interest and the enjoyment of the student. This is an approach that always pays rich dividends in both academic and personal development.

Why I tutor

I find education and learning the most rewarding experiences, both from an individual perspective – overseeing students and helping them to achieve their full potential – and more generally as a tool to share ideas and bringing forward human knowledge, in a continuous cycle amongst generations, learning to standing on the shoulders of Giants.
